EU/ENG - The Heads of State and Government of the European Union and the African Union met on November 24 and 25 in Luanda, the capital of Angola. More than seventy leaders sat at the table, 27 Europeans and 55 Africans. The event celebrated 25 years of partnership and revolved around the provision of EU funding for African development.
The Europeans have made every effort to dispel any suspicion of a neocolonial perspective, starting with European Commission President von der Leyen: "We want Africa and Europe to be partners by choice," she emphasized. The response of the President of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, reflects a mature and informed stance: "It is no longer time to be just suppliers of raw materials."
The Global Gateway for Africa
The EU has launched a massive investment package, the Global Gateway, amounting to a staggering €150 billion. The objectives would be to accelerate the green and digital transition and promote sustainable growth, through the consolidation—and in some countries, the actual creation—of healthcare and education infrastructure. These concrete investments are intended to boost the growth of a continent with enormous structural challenges.
EU/ITA - Si sono riuniti il 24 e 25 novembre a Luanda, capitale dell'Angola, i capi di stato e di governo dell’Unione Europea e della Unione Africana. Al tavolo si sono seduti più di settanta leader, 27 europei e 55 africani. L’evento ha celebrato i 25 anni di partenariato ed è gravitato attorno alla erogazione di finanziamenti comunitari per lo sviluppo africano.
Gli europei hanno in tutti i modi cercato di allontanare ogni sospetto di prospettiva neocoloniale, a cominciare dal capo dell'esecutivo europeo von der Leyen: “Vogliamo che Africa ed Europa siano partner per scelta” ha ricordato. Sulla stessa linea il presidente del Consiglio europeo Costa. Nella replica del presidente della Commissione dell’Unione Africana, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf si ritrova una postura matura e consapevole: “Non è più tempo di essere solo dei fornitori di materie prime”.
Il Global Gateway per l’Africa
L'UE ha messo in campo un poderoso pacchetto d'investimenti, il Global gateway, che ammonta a ben 150 miliardi di euro Gli obiettivi sarebbero quelli di accelerare la transizione verde, digitale e la promozione di una crescita sostenibile, con il consolidamento, e in alcuni Paesi, la vera e propria creazione di infrastrutture sanitarie e scolastiche. Investimenti concreti che hanno l’intenzione di far crescere un continente con enormi problemi strutturali.
