Renew Europe Launches Its Electoral Campaign in Brussels for the June EU Elections

EU/ENG - The electoral campaign for the European elections held from June 6 to 9 was officially launched on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Brussels at the Royal Museums of Art and History before hundreds of delegates and participants. The continent's main liberal, centrist, and democratic forces officially united under the joint platform "Renew Europe Now," which carries on the legacy of the political group in the European Parliament and brings together three major currents: the European Democratic Party (EDP), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), and Renaissance.

To lead the challenge and represent the coalition in public events and continental debates, the "Team Europe" was introduced—a joint team consisting of three prominent figures, one for each component of the platform:

Sandro Gozi, Member of the European Parliament and Secretary-General of the European Democratic Party;

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, a prominent German defense figure and ALDE candidate;

Valérie Hayer, outgoing leader of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament and representative of Renaissance.

The platform placed the defense of European democratic values, the strengthening of common security and defense, the protection of rights, and economic competitiveness at the center of its programmatic priorities, drawing a sharp line against nationalist and populist drifts.

With this move, the three co-leaders of Renew Europe Now officially entered the arena to challenge the Spitzenkandidaten fielded by the other major European political families: Ursula von der Leyen for the European People's Party (EPP), Nicolas Schmit for the Party of European Socialists (PES), the duo of Terry Reintke and Bas Eickhout for the Greens, and Walter Baier for the European Left.

Sandro Gozi, europarlamentare e segretario generale del Partito Democratico Europeo;

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, figura di spicco della difesa tedesca e candidata dell'ALDE;
