EU/EN - On Saturday 10 May, the leaders of the Germany, France, Poland and the United Kingdom travelled to Kiev to demonstrate their countries' support for Ukraine, amid a new phase of tension with Moscow. The Italian Prime Minister participated via video conference, virtually joining the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Merz, Macron, Tusk and Starmer reiterated their call for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, a proposal already supported by the United States and accepted by Kyiv on 11 March. At the end of the meeting, the participants had a phone call with US President Trump. Von der Leyen expressed full support for the "proposal for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, which will allow the peace negotiation process to begin", noting that "the ball is now in Russia's court and we must keep it there, increasing the pressure on Moscow". If Russia does not comply, "together with the United States and the G7 we will coordinate further severe sanctions."The meeting comes in the aftermath of Putin's military parade in Moscow's Red Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.
ITA - Sabato 10 maggio i leader di Germania, Francia, Polonia e Regno Unito si sono recati a Kiev per manifestare il sostegno dei loro Paesi a favore dell'Ucraina, nel pieno di una nuova fase di tensione con Mosca. La premier italiana ha partecipato tramite videoconferenza, unendosi virtualmente alla riunione con il presidente ucraino Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Merz, Macron, Tusk e Starmer hanno ribadito il loro appello per un cessate il fuoco incondizionato di 30 giorni, proposta già sostenuta dagli Stati Uniti e accettata da Kyiv l'11 marzo scorso. Al termine della riunione i partecipanti hanno avuto una telefonata con il presidente Usa Trump.
Von der Leyen ha espresso pieno sostegno alla "proposta di un cessate il fuoco incondizionato di 30 giorni, che permetta di avviare il processo di negoziazione della pace", segnalando che "la palla è ora nel campo della Russia e dobbiamo mantenerla lì, aumentando la pressione su Mosca". Se la Russia non lo rispetterà, "insieme agli Stati Uniti e al G7 coordineremo ulteriori sanzioni severe".
L'incontro giunge all'indomani della parata ,militare organizzata da Putin sulla Piazza rossa di Mosca per celebrare l'80° anniversario della vittoria sovietica nella seconda guerra mondiale.
