Draghi, Sanchez, Costa e, dalla Grecia, Mitsotakis hanno stabilito di fare fronte comune a sostegno dell'introduzione di un tetto Ue al prezzo del gas

In preparazione del Consiglio Europeo del 24 e 25 marzo, si sono visti a Roma, venerdi 18 marzo, i premier di Italia, Spagna, Portogallo e, in teleconferenza, Grecia. Draghi, Sanchez, Costa e, dalla Grecia, Mitsotakis hanno stabilito di fare fronte comune a sostegno dell'introduzione di un tetto Ue al prezzo del gas, ritenendo l'onere del caro-energia ancor più gravoso se in carico ai signoli Paesi in ordine sparso.

Le quattro delegazioni dei Paesi euromediterranei sono attesi ad un coordinamento nell'affrontare al Consiglio anche altri temi di grande rilevanza come l'aggressione militare russa nei confronti dell’Ucraina (con gli ultimi sviluppi sul terreno, compresi la situazione umanitaria e i rifugiati) e la sicurezza e difesa europea, a partire dalla bussola strategica.

Un vertice che vedrà anche la presenza del presidente degli Stati Uniti Joe Biden, in Europa per una riunione straordinaria della Nato sull’andamento della guerra in Ucraina, riguardo la quale il segretario Stoltemberg ha significativamente dichiarato: “In questo momento critico, il Nord America e l’Europa devono continuare a stare insieme”.

Durante la riunione dei ministri della Difesa Nato della scorsa settimana era stato ribadito il sostegno dell’Alleanza all’Ucraina, anche con forniture militari, aiuti umanitari e finanziari.
