EN - After long consultations, French President Macron has appointed Michel Barnier as his new prime minister. A former foreign minister and former "Brexit" negotiator for the European Commission, the 73-year-old Gaullist Barnier has been in office since September 5 and is trying to form a government of national unity that excludes the left and right wings deemed "extreme" by the Elysée.

Unlike the right-wing Le Penists who lost the elections, the left-wing Front Populair won and had indicated a different candidate, never even considered by Macron. The next few weeks will be decisive in understanding how the second country in the Eurozone will be governed.
