Thousands of mayors, regional councilors, regional ministers, and top European and global decision-makers will gather in Mons, in the Walloon region of Belgium, in the heart of Europe, under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, to discuss the challenges and solutions for the future of Europe and beyond.
The occasion is the European Summit of Regions and Cities, which, like every two years, is organized by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) where elected representatives of regional and local authorities meet to discuss the main challenges facing the European Union.
The 2024 summit is the 10th since its foundation, coincides with the thirtieth anniversary, and aims, as stated in the official presentation, "to offer a new perspective on issues at the center of citizens' concerns, such as democracy, sustainable development, the future of the European Union and its enlargement, the need to ensure social, economic, and territorial cohesion, and the management of the consequences of the war against Ukraine. Global challenges will be addressed by bringing together different perspectives from around the world."
