Germany: Scholz moves forward without FDP

EN - The withdrawal of the liberals of the FDP has deprived Scholz's government of its majority in the Bundestag, compromising its stability. . The vote of confidence, scheduled for January 15, 2025, could pave the way for early elections as early as March of the same year. Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union, the party favored in the polls for the early elections, declared that "it is the end of this legislative term. Olaf Scholz would like to have some crucial legislative measures approved by the end of 2024 while remaining chancellor with the pragmatic search for new majorities in the Bundestag. After the sensational dismissal on November 6 of the leader of the FDP, the German liberal democratic party, Christian Lindner as Federal Minister of Finance, Olaf Scholz has chosen to replace him with the Secretary of State at the Federal Chancellery, Joerg Kukies, a prestigious economist and member of the SPD who is very close to the chancellor.
