EU recovery: Commission steps up market issuance to hit the €80bn funding target by the end of 2021 - L'obiettivo è arrivare a 80 miliardi entro fine 2021

EU/ENG - The European Commission is advancing the Next Generation EU programme under a rigorous timetable and well-defined deadlines, underscoring a sound and structured financial management strategy.

The funding mechanism gained significant momentum as early as late September 2021, when the total resources mobilized by Brussels surpassed the €54 billion threshold. These funds serve as the financial cornerstone for the National Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRPs) of the various member states. To sustain this pace, the Commission's programmatic objective has consistently been to reach a funding target of €80 billion by the close of the financial year, namely December 31, 2021. This ambitious trajectory demanded a continuous and strategic presence on international capital markets. Within this framework, a pivotal milestone was reached on September 4, 2021, with the successful pricing of the fourth placement on the primary market. On this occasion, Brussels raised €9 billion through the issuance of a long-term bond. This fixed-rate instrument carries a 7-year maturity, with the technical redemption date and the correlated principal repayment to investors scheduled for October 4, 2028.

This precise chronological sequence demonstrates the European Union's reliability as a supranational issuer, capable of acting swiftly to ensure the economic stability of the Continent.
