EU hits Chinese-made EVs with new tariffs

Giunti alla fine di ottobre del 2024 e dopo un lungo iter procedurale, l’Ue ha reso definitivi i dazi sulle auto elettriche cinesi.

EN - Having reached the end of October 2024 and after a long procedural process, the European Union has made the duties on Chinese electric cars definitive, with the publication of the implementing regulation which permanently triggers the trade tariffs decreed on July 4th and retroactive taxes up to three months. The definitive EU countervailing duties on imported Chinese electric cars will last five years. The European Commission indicated this by reiterating that 'the battery electric car supply chain in China benefits from unfair subsidies which are causing a threat of economic damage to EU producers'. European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis underlined: “We are defending Europe's industrial base.” Brussels also indicates that 'in parallel the EU and China continue to work to find alternative solutions compatible with the World Trade Organization that would be effective in addressing the problems identified by the investigation. The Commission 'also remains open to negotiating price undertakings with individual exporters, as permitted under EU and WTO rules'.

 

IT - Giunti alla fine di ottobre del 2024 e dopo un lungo iter procedurale, l’Unione europea ha reso definitivi i dazi sulle auto elettriche cinesi, con la pubblicazione del regolamento attuativo che fa scattare a titolo permanente le tariffe commerciali decretate il 4 luglio e imposte retroattive fino a tre mesi. 

I dazi Ue compensativi definitivi sulle auto elettriche cinesi importate dureranno cinque anni. Lo ha indicato la Commissione europea ribadendo che 'la filiera delle auto a batteria elettrica in Cina beneficia di sovvenzioni ingiuste che stanno causando una minaccia di danno economico ai produttori Ue'. Il vice-presidente della Commissione europea Valdis Dombrovskis ha sottolineato: "Stiamo difendendo la base industriale europea".

La Commissione indica altresì che “parallelamente la Ue e la Cina continuano a lavorare per trovare soluzioni alternative compatibili con l'Organizzazione mondiale del commercio che sarebbero efficaci nell'affrontare i problemi identificati dall'indagine”. Bruxelles “rimane inoltre aperta a negoziare impegni sui prezzi con singoli esportatori, come consentito dalle norme della Ue e dell'Omc”.
