Il 12 marzo 2023 nel cuore del centro congressi “La Nuvola” all’EUR, si è concluso il percorso iniziato con le primarie dello scorso 26 febbraio: Elly Schlein è stata formalmente proclamata segretaria del PD davanti all'Assemblea nazionale riunita. Schlein succede a Enrico Letta uscito sconfitto con il PD al 19% dei voti nelle elezioni politiche del 25 settembre 2022. In seguito alla sconfitta elettorale, Letta, politico elegante, rassegnò le dimissioni da segretario del partito, restando in carica fino alle successive elezioni primarie tenutesi il 26 febbraio 2023 con circa un milione e centomila votanti e la Schlein vincente con il 53,75% su Stefano Bonaccini fermatosi al 46,25%.
