EU/ENG - As this twenty-ninth of December 2024 draws to a close, we look back at the radiant light of Alsace, reflecting on a time that for Strasbourg has been a whirlwind of paper and thought. Since its inauguration on April 23rd, the city has thrived as UNESCO World Book Capital, transforming its urban fabric into a living laboratory where literature transcends the page to become an architecture of collective citizenship. One cannot forget the enchanting summer parenthesis; until September 8th, the performative installations of Pages Blanches on the Place du Château turned the written word into a poetic refuge, bridging the gap between ancient stone and modern frenzy. This dense season, punctuated by the literary encounters of July and the rigorous discourse on the ecology of the book that marked August, solidified the motto "Lire notre monde" as a fundamental civic practice. As this masterful chapter nears its end, Strasbourg stands as a testament to reading as a radical act, weaving that invisible yet unbreakable web of thought—the only passport truly capable of making us, in these closing days of the year, citizens of a world that is more in need than ever of being interpreted through fresh eyes.
