Il ricordo di Antonio De Chiara del grande giornalista francese, scomparso il 10 ottobre - A tribute to the French journalist, who passed away on October 10th

EU/ENG - The passing of Gérard Moatti on October 10th marks the loss of one of the Continent’s most authoritative voices. For those of us in European think tanks and international analysis, Gérard was not just the former President of Ajef, but an essential ethical compass.

Our connection dates back to the late 1990s, a pivotal era for European integration. Meeting him was a masterclass: despite his vast culture and leadership at L’Expansion, he possessed the rare modesty of the truly great and an insatiable curiosity.

Gérard had a rare gift for making figures speak with classical elegance. His writing eschewed rhetorical artifice for exemplary clarity, convinced that economic analysis required absolute integrity to serve the public interest.

Always in good humor, he sought the invisible thread connecting macroeconomic decisions to daily life. This sharp insight continues to enlighten our work between Rome and Brussels. Today, together with Europolitiche and the think tank community, we bid farewell to a witness who ennobled European journalism.

My deepest condolences to his wife and daughters. His legacy of rigor and passion remains embedded in the DNA of our daily commitment.

Farewell, Gérard. May the earth lie lightly upon you.
